The symposium will be hosted at the ICE in London.
The symposium is free to attend and will be followed by a drinks reception (£15 ticket needed to attend). To register for the event and see a detailed program please visit The Indian Ocean Tsunami 20 years on: driving change and changing lives-Seminars
We are delighted to announce that Professor Gian Michele Calvi has accepted the invitation by the SECED Committee to deliver the 19th Mallet-Milne Lecture next year. As with previous Mallet-Milne lecture nominees, this recognises Prof Calvi’s wide contributions to earthquake engineering theory, practice and education. The 19th Mallet-Milne lecture will be delivered in the Telford Theatre in the ICE Headquarters in Westminster, London, on 28th May 2025. Further information will be published here: The 19th Lecture (seced.org.uk)
We are happy to announce the winner of the SECED Fund Award 2024. The SECED Committee selected the proposal by Atif Rasheed (PhD student at Imperial College London), titled “Assessment of Wrapped Stones (Shicras) as a low-Cost Seismic Isolation System". The Committee was impressed by Atif's application that looks at experimental testing of innovative, low-cost and sustainable seismic base isolation system for low-rise buildings, fully aligned with the aims of SECED.

SECED members are being encouraged to support two engineering-related charities working in the earthquake-hit regions of Turkey and Syria. SARAID [Search And Rescue Assistance In Disasters] has deployed volunteers directly to the area, while RedR UK ensures that people responding to disasters have the skills to do so safely and effectively.
