Standardised Steel Connections for Seismic Resistant Steel Structures
Synopsis
Connection design solutions, other than those deemed as ‘prequalified’ or ‘pre-engineered’, are permitted in seismic codes of practice when verified by suitable physical prototype tests in accordance with specified procedures or approved by regulatory authorities. However, these alternate ‘non-normative’ approaches can often be difficult and inefficient. There is therefore significant benefit in the standardisation of seismic connections. This workshop introduces the development of European Prequalified Steel Moment Connections for seismic resistant steel structures, which can be used in conjunction with Eurocode 8. The technical background, which is based on the results of a collaborative European project (Equaljoints Plus), will be presented together with selected design examples and open-access design tools.
